THE MAKING OF THE FINE GOLD COLLECTION
AN INTERVIEW WITH LEA
After months of preparations and a passion fueled vision, Lea shares with us her personal insights behind the making of the new Fine Gold Collection for her label, in this candid interview.
B: Where did your inspiration come from for this collection?
L: My inspiration was drawn from trees with roots that twist and coil in fascinating ways. I incorporated these forms into the designs. Additionally, gold is a precious metal that symbolizes strength and eternity – much like a majestic tree itself.
B: Why was it important for you to design a collection in Fine Gold?
L: This has been a long-standing dream of mine. I wanted to create pieces that are an extension of my design language – organic, sculptural forms that remain effortlessly wearable every day. They are more delicate than my previous designs, which is why at BAIUSHKI, you can now find a solid gold ring at a fair price – one that will accompany you forever.
B: How long did it take you to design the collection?
L: Forever. The ideas have been swirling in my mind for years. To settle on the right forms in solid gold, I went through numerous trials and errors. My ambition for these shapes was immense, which meant a long and thoughtful process.
B: What are some of your favorite pieces? And what do you like most about them?
L: I’m in love with the AGAPI Hoops (agapi = love in Greek). These are organically shaped hoops with a click closure – a design that took considerable time and effort to perfect, but the result is worth it. To me, these are the perfect earrings that you never want to take off. I also appreciate the versatility of this collection. The pendants can be worn in various ways – either on a chain or as an add-on to an earring. This flexibility gives you the freedom to create different looks with the same piece. Another favorite of mine is the TWINE Ring, which is so intricately twisted that it appears to be a knot – though it is not. The form is both complex and simple at the same time, and this is exactly what I aim to achieve with my creations.
